Sample Wedding Shot List

Thursday, November 29, 2007 | Posted in Wedding Photography

I don’t work from a shot list. Usually I just follow the bride (and/or the groom) and take my cue from what they do. I am pretty observant and usually I manage to get shots that people don’t usually notice.

Most of the time, brides tell me during the viewing session, when we are viewing the photos that they didn’t notice (or realize) that so and so did this.

But here is a list of the things that I usually get at most weddings. This is just a guide of what to expect, not a guarantee.

If you want to view complete weddings, you can view them at SilvasPhoto.com/album/

Wedding Photo Shot List
Before the Wedding : Bridal Preparation / Getting Ready

I usually like to arrive an hour or more before the wedding ceremony to be able to capture preparing for the wedding.  This is one of my favorite parts of the wedding because there is so much going on that I have so much material to work with

Bride’s wedding dress hanging on the wardrobe, on the bedpost, or over a chair
Bridesmaids doing bride’s hair and makeup
Bride and bridesmaids getting dressed, applying makeup
Mom helping bride with one last detail, such as veil
Full-length shot of bride in gown checking herself out in mirror
Detail of clothing, shoes, garter, something borrowed, something blue
Touching shot of bride with parent/s and/or stepparent/s
Touching shot of bride with sibling/s
Bride hugging honor attendant
Bride with bridesmaids
Bride with all the women
Groom getting ready with Dad and pals (tying the tie is a classic)
Touching shot of groom with parent/s and/or stepparent/s
Touching shot of groom with sibling/s
Groom with his arm affectionately around best man
Groom with all the groomsmen
Groomsmen putting on boutonnieres or bowties
Intimate shots of bride and groom chatting with/crying with/hugging parents and siblings preceremony
Dad whispering last-minute advice to groom
Groom getting ready to go
Bride getting ready to go
Bride and groom separately making their way to the ceremony (in a limo backseat, hailing a cab, walking down the street/hall/stairs)
Between Wedding Ceremony and Wedding Reception : Wedding Party Portraits

How much does a normal wedding cost?

Monday, November 26, 2007 | Posted in Wedding Article

The wedding day is one of the most important days in a woman’s life.  Many girls grow up dreaming about their wedding day and already imagining all the tiny details.

So how much should you spend for a wedding?

According to costofwedding.com, the average couple in Charleston, South Carolina spends $25,340 for their wedding.  (You can also view the cost of wedding in other cities in the USA in their website)

This is just an average.  Some people spend more, some people spend less.

Here is a sample breakdown by percent of how much the wedding budget should be broken down.  This is just a rough guide to be used as a starting point and not a hard and fast rule.  Some brides give more priority to certain items, such as a wedding gown or a spectacular venue or a six-string orchestra, and may adjust their budget accordingly.  It all depends on what is most important to the wedding couple.  Also, wedding budgets differ depending on how many guests you have.

Rings (Wedding and Engagement) 15%
Wedding Gown (including accessories such as veil, tiara, etc.) 5%
Wedding Reception and Catering 35%
Photography and Videography 10%
Music and Entertainment 4%
Flowers and Decoration 13%
Cake 3%
Wedding Party Gifts 2%
Wedding Invitation 4%
Rehearsal Dinner 2%
Officiant/Ceremony Fees 1%
Transportation 2%
Tuexedos 1%
Pre-Wedding Parties 3%

When making up your wedding budget, don’t forget to leave some money for starting out a new life as a couple.  This would include buying a new house (or moving in together), buying new furniture and appliances, and other things that you might need as a new couple.

The most important thing is not to go broke over the process.  There is no point in having a $3000 wedding gown and a $4000 wedding ring, then having a lot of credit card debt after the wedding.  It is, after all, just one day.  There is are vendors for weddings of all budgets, so a little research and a little compromise will go a long way into saving some money.
